A Leitchfield man who resisted police and was held at gunpoint has been arrested in Elizabethtown with more than six grams of methamphetamine.

The Elizabethtown Police Department arrested 45-year-old Jamie R. Saltsman last week and charged him with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance, second-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and public intoxication.

The News-Enterprise reports that the arrest citation states that an officer spotted Saltsman parked on the side of a roadway. When the officer approached Saltsman, he was “sweating profusely, shaking and not making sense.”

Saltsman was asked to step out of the vehicle, but the suspect refused and was “held at gunpoint for several minutes,” the newspaper reports. Upon the arrival of additional officers, Saltsman continued to refuse to exit the vehicle resulting in police tasing the suspect twice.

Saltsman then exited the vehicle and as police tried to handcuff him, he continued to resist officers before being taken into custody.

Saltsman was transported to Baptist Health Hardin where police found more than six grams of methamphetamine on the suspect.

He’s being held in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $75,000 cash bond.
