A semi-truck cab, minus the driver but with a dog inside, embarked on a journey after rolling out of a parking lot and onto South Main Street in Leitchfield before stopping on the Western Kentucky Parkway bridge.

Saturday night at approximately 5:50, the Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments responded to the scene following a Rogers Trucking Company semi, parked at Subway as the driver grabbed a bite to eat, rolled out of the parking lot and across four lanes of traffic and onto the on-ramp to the westbound parkway.

The semi, with only the driver’s Australian Cattle Dog (aka Blue or Red Heeler) seat belted in the cab, rolled into a grassy area adjacent the on-ramp where the bumper struck the ground. The impact apparently redirected the truck back across four lanes of traffic and onto the bridge where it (lightly) struck the concrete railing.

A passerby then jumped into the truck and engaged the brakes, police said, bringing the runaway truck to a stop.

The driver, initially unaware his truck had rolled away, arrived at the vehicle at roughly the same time as police, authorities said.

The driver’s dog seemed no worse for wear, and no injuries were reported.
