An eastern Kentucky woman who tossed a garbage bag containing her newborn baby over a banister has reached a plea agreement.

Amber Bowling, 25, of Manchester, tossed the baby over the second-story banister of an apartment complex in early December 2018. Bowling had delivered the baby earlier that day.

The baby suffered cranial bleeding and fractured ribs and died of blunt force trauma, Clay County Coroner Danny Finley said at the time of the incident.

Bowling was scheduled to go on trial on Monday for murder. She agreed to the plea deal Monday morning, though, news outlets report.

Under the plea bargain, she agreed to a 40 year prison term. Formal sentencing is slated for June 27.
