A former Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy has pled guilty to trying to induce a child to have sex.

Kentucky State Police said 30-year-old Brandon Edwards, of Manchester, pled guilty earlier this week to unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited activities. The charge is a class D felony.

The investigation into Edwards began in January 2020. He was indicted on the charge in July 2020.

Edwards, who served at the sheriff’s office K-9 handler, will be formally sentenced on August 1. He faces up to five years in prison.
