Kentucky State Police is asking for help solving a cold case murder.
KSP is requesting information on the November 8, 2002 murder of James A. Perkins, 57, of Horse Cave (the date of Perkins’ death is noted as November 9, 2002 on his tombstone).
Perkins was found bludgeoned to death in his mobile home on Pace Road, about two miles northwest of Horse Cave, according to a Bowling Green Daily News article published in 2011.
Perkins, who was a well known bootlegger, had possibly stolen a large amount of marijuana from someone just before his death, according to the newspaper.
He was last seen leaving a party and traveling to his home. His lifeless body was found the next day.
KSP Detective Chad Winn said in 2011 that it appears Perkins was not robbed but was likely targeted.
“We’ve entertained the thought of several different motives,” Winn told the newspaper in 2011. “I do believe it was probably someone who knew him. This was not a random crime.”
Investigators from Post 3 Bowling Green are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact Det. Gary Travis at 270-782-2010.
