Three Grayson County and one Breckinridge County fire department responded to a devastating blaze on Hardin Road.

Thursday afternoon at approximately 4:40, the Leitchfield, Clarkson, East Grayson and McDaniels Fire Departments responded to the large blaze in the 500 block of Hardin Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the front portion of the two-story, wood-frame structure engulfed in flames. Firefighters, according to Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall, initially made entry into the residence through the garage (the “back side” of the fire), as firefighters fought to keep the blaze, being accelerated by windy conditions, from spreading to the rear of the home.

As other fire departments arrived on scene, personnel battled the fire from all angles, and both inside and outside the home.

It took firefighters about an hour to extinguish the blaze, saving the back portion of the residence and allowing the occupants to save several items from the devastation.

It is believed the fire began on the home’s large front porch, Duvall said, before spreading to the rest of the residence.

American Red Cross personnel arrived on scene to assist the family.

No injuries were reported.
