Two days of searching by multiple agencies did not result in authorities locating the remains of a Caneyville woman missing for nine years.
According to a person with knowledge of the search, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, multiple fire department personnel, and bloodhounds had no luck finding the remains of 28-year-old Melvia Roarx during searches conducted on Thursday and Friday.
The search area was concentrated about five miles northwest of Caneyville.
Roarx, a mother of four, went missing on June 4, 2013. She was last seen when she left her home and drove approximately four miles to a Caneyville convenience store. She made it to the store but then disappeared.
Surveillance video from the store showed Roarx driving toward her residence after leaving the business. Her vehicle, though, a 2000 Dodge Caravan, was found on I-65 in Bullitt County, near Shepherdsville. Roarx’s purse was inside the van but her wallet was not.
The van’s driver’s seat had been moved back, away from the steering wheel and too far for the five feet, four inch tall Roarx to have reached the gas pedal and brake. This indicated to authorities that someone tall had likely been driving the vehicle.
According to Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins, his office recently received information on the location of Roarx’s remains, spurring the two-day search.
