A former Bullitt County Detention Center staff member is being investigated after inappropriate text messages between him and an escaped inmate surfaced.
The escaped inmate, 31-year-old Chasity B. Spencer, of Mt. Washington, walked away from a work detail at a Shepherdsville pizza restaurant on February 28, according to a report by WDRB.com, who broke the story on Tuesday. She died of a drug overdose on March 31 at her boyfriend’s apartment.
During her time on the run, now-terminated Bullitt County Detention Center deputy jailer Will Smith texted Spencer potentially dozens of time, with many of the texts sexual in nature.
Kentucky State Police told WDRB.com that the agency “was given the findings of an administrative investigation conducted by the Bullitt Co. Detention on a former employee to review if any criminal activity had occurred. KSP is currently consulting with the Bullitt Co. Commonwealth Attorney’s Office on potential criminal charges.”
Spencer, who was in jail on a promoting contraband charge, stayed at her boyfriend’s apartment after walking away from work-release. The boyfriend told the news outlet that he used his CashApp to make contact with a drug dealer. It was taking those drugs that resulted in Spencer suffering a fatal overdose.
