Butler Co. HS teacher charged with sexually abusing child

A Butler County High School teacher has been arrested.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34-year-old Steven R. McLean late Wednesday afternoon. He was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, victim under the age of 12. He’s being held in the Butler County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.

According to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, McLean is the former head volleyball coach at Butler Co. H.S. It appears from McLean’s social media presence that he is an assistant basketball coach at the high school, as well. He formerly played basketball for BCHS.

He is listed by Butler County Schools as a teacher in the high school’s Exceptional Education program.

Butler County School Superintendent Robert Tuck issued the following statement on McLean’s arrest to the Beech Tree News:

“I understand Butler County High School teacher Steven McLean has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse. While there are no allegations of any misconduct by Mr. McLean as a teacher in the Butler County Schools, Mr. McLean is on a leave of absence as a precautionary matter pending further developments. I am monitoring the situation closely and will take all actions necessary to protect the safety of our students.”
