A juvenile has been charged with making threatening statements toward Hickman County schools and school employees.

On Tuesday, Kentucky State Police charged a Hickman County male juvenile after investigating the threat of school violence.

State police said administrators with the Hickman County School District were made aware of social media posts authored by a student. The post included disturbing statements directed to the school and school staff. An image of a firearm was attached to the post which heightened the concerns of staff, according to Kentucky State Police.

As a result of the investigation, police charged the juvenile with first-degree terroristic threatening. The juvenile, police said, was released to a guardian after consultation with the Hickman County Court Designated Worker.

The school district issued the following statement on the incident:

“We take these situations very seriously and the school will follow the student discipline code of conduct and all applicable policies to determine appropriate discipline. We appreciate those who brought this to our attention and continue to encourage our school community to collaborate with us to keep our students and staff safe.”

Hickman County is located in the Jackson Purchase, in far western Kentucky.
