A woman chasing a cell phone she dropped in a river survived a nearly 70-foot fall over Cumberland Falls.
Whitley County Emergency Management said that on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3:15 “witnesses advised a female upstream had fallen into the river … going over the falls (and) landing downstream.”
Upon first responders arriving at the scene, the 36-year-old woman was swimming to a large rock downstream of the 68-foot water fall. A rescue crew entered the water with the woman swimming to the crew.
She was medically cleared at the scene and refused transport to a hospital.
The woman told authorities she dropped her phone into the river as she was taking photos. When she attempted to gather her phone from the water, she was swept away by the current.
Cumberland Falls is in Cumberland Falls State Park on the Whitley-McCreary County border.
