A teenager has been arrested after throwing an explosive device at Murray State University students.

Kentucky State Police said that on Saturday morning at approximately 9:30, 19-year-old Jack T. Epperson, of Murray, approached multiple female students near a student housing area not far from Sorority Row.

Witnesses told police that Epperson exited a vehicle brandishing a knife before throwing a Molotov cocktail-type explosive (glass container with a flammable substance and a fuse) at the students, according to the Murray Ledger & Times. He then fled the scene.

None of the female students were injured, but Epperson suffered a serious burn to his hand.

Kentucky State Police said that after conducting several interviews and collecting physical evidence, Epperson was arrested.

He was treated for the burn at a local hospital before being lodged in the Calloway County Detention Center where he was charged with multiple counts of first-degree assault (attempt) and possession of a destructive device.

Epperson is being held on a $50,000 cash bond.
