A semi truck flipped onto its top Monday on the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Monday night at approximately 7:45, Grayson County Deputies Sean Fentress and Wally Ritter, the Leitchfield Fire Department and EMS responded to the single-vehicle accident between the 103- and 104-mile markers of the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found a westbound JPI Carriers tractor-trailer carrying a 42,000 pound steel coil had entered the median and traveled between 200 and 250 yards before the trailer got sideways, flipping the vehicle onto its top.

The truck’s 50-foot long trailer came to rest in the left lane of the eastbound parkway, with the cab positioned on the shoulder of the westbound left lane.

The truck’s fuel tank had a small leak, which Leitchfield fire personnel plugged.

The driver, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, told police he was passing a vehicle when he “got over too far” and entered the median. He was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center.

The eastbound lanes were briefly shut down soon after first responders arrived. Following that shutdown, the parkway was relegated to one lane in each direction until approximately 11:05 Monday night as deputies worked the scene and tow company workers removed the truck.
