A Caneyville felon has been arrested after running from and fighting with police for the second time in less than two years.

Saturday night at approximately 11:00, Grayson County Deputy Nick Pruitt and another officer arrived at a residence in the 400 block of Tousey Road on a complaint. Upon arriving at the scene, 39-year-old Daron Fentress, who had multiple felony warrants, ran from the home and into a wooded area.

Police caught Fentress, with the suspect grabbing at the officer’s firearm and utility belt. A fight ensued before Fentress was detained and arrested.

Fentress was initially transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center before being lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

He is facing several new charges, including resisting arrest, disarming a police officer and third-degree assault of a police officer. Fentress had warrants for nearly 20 other charges, including resisting arrest, third-degree assault of a police officer, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), being a persistent felony offender, fleeing or evading police among multiple other counts.

The Caneyville Fire Department assisted at the scene.

In December 2020, Fentress was arrested after running from, resisting and fighting with Grayson County deputies during a traffic stop. He was also served with an arrest warrant.

In May of last year, Fentress was arrested after being found passed out in a vehicle in the of middle of Richland Road. During a search of the vehicle, police located methamphetamine and marijuana.

In 2015, Fentress was convicted in Grayson County of first-degree wanton endangerment and fleeing or evading police, both class D felonies, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
