A woman has been indicted on murder and other charges after she crashed while under the influence of drugs, killing an unrestrained child.
A Carter County Grand Jury indicted 37-year-old Crystal Hodge in the January 24, 2021, crash on I-64.
According to Kentucky State Police, Hodge was traveling east on I-64 in Carter County at a high rate of speed during inclement weather and under the influence of a controlled substance. She lost control of her SUV, striking an embankment and causing the vehicle to roll multiple times.
An unrestrained eight-year-old was ejected from the vehicle, while an 11-year-old suffered serious injuries.
The case, police said, was recently presented to a Carter County Grand Jury which returned an indictment for murder, first-degree assault and first-degree wanton endangerment.
Hodge was arrested by West Virginia State Police in Beckley, West Virginia, and transported to the Southern Regional Jail where she is being held until her extradition to Kentucky.
