An elderly Big Clifty man has suffered serious injuries after crashing head-on into a tree.

Tuesday evening at approximately 5:30, Grayson County Deputy Caleb Owens, the East Grayson Fire Department along with EMS responded to the single-vehicle crash in the 100 block of Lacon Skaggs Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found the elderly driver trapped in a Chevrolet Silverado 1500. East Grayson firefighters attempted to extricate the victim but were unable to free the man, who appeared to suffer serious injuries to his lower extremities.

Clarkson FD was summoned the scene and used the Jaws of Life (equipment East Grayson FD does not have) to free the man. It took Clarkson firefighters about 15 minutes to extricate the victim after their arrival.

First responders inquired about having the man airlifted but two air ambulance services declined to fly due to weather conditions. The victim was then transported by EMS to Baptist Health Hardin.

The accident occurred when the Chevrolet, traveling north on Lacon Skaggs Road, left the wet roadway in a sharp curve and struck a tree head-on.
