Two Hardin County residents are facing felony charges after a small child suffered life-threatening injuries.

Kentucky State Police arrested the five-year-old child’s father, 25-year-old Clovis E. Smith and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Satrina M. Layne, both of Rineyville, and charged each with first-degree criminal abuse of a child (victim under the age of 12).

On Sunday afternoon at approximately 4:30, the Hardin County Department for Community Based Services contacted state police regarding a child originally taken to Baptist Health Hardin with serious injuries. The child was then airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, state police said.

Both suspects were lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center on $250,000 cash bonds.

The investigation remains ongoing by Det. Casey Keown.
