A deputy jailer in Warren County has been arrested for impersonating a peace officer and unlawful imprisonment after holding his wife and her alleged boyfriend against their will.

The Bowling Green Police Department arrested 26-year-old Kevin Z. Schmidt, of Bowling Green, and charged him with first-degree unlawful imprisonment, impersonating a peace officer, first-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, and fourth-degree assault (domestic violence).

WNKY.com reports that the arrest citation states that police responded on Sunday to a domestic disturbance on Village Creek Drive. Upon arriving at the scene, Schmidt told officers that he pepper sprayed his wife and her alleged boyfriend because the boyfriend threatened him.

Schmidt further told police that he was conducting an investigation and was “acting in (an) official peace officer capacity and investigating a crime,” the Bowling Green television reports, as he had found a pipe containing marijuana residue in the residence when he arrived home from work.

Schmidt also is accused of detaining his wife and the male due to the “pending investigation.”

Schmidt was arrested on Monday and lodged in the Barren County Detention Center. He has since been released.

Bowling Green police seized the pipe.

Warren County Jailer Stephen Harmon told WNKY.com that Schmidt has been placed on administrative suspension without pay pending adjudication of the case.
