Western Ky. high school basketball coach indicted on federal drug charges after DEA investigation

The head basketball coach at University Heights Academy in Hopkinsville has been indicted by a federal grand jury on drug trafficking charges.

Melvin Brown, 40, was indicted on drug trafficking and money laundering charges following a lengthy and extensive investigation by the DEA, according to the Hopkinsville Police Department. He is lodged in the McCracken County Detention Center.

On Tuesday, members of the DEA, Hopkinsville PD and Kentucky State Police executed multiple search warrants in Hopkinsville, police said, where law enforcement seized a large amount of cash, a handgun, and illicit drugs.

Brown was recently selected the 2023 2nd Region Coach of the Year after leading the Blazers to a 19-10 record.
