An eastern Kentucky mother has been charged in the death of her toddler after police discovered the child ingested fentanyl.

Brittney L. Copodonna, 33, of Ashland, was recently indicted by a Boyd County Grand Jury for first-degree manslaughter, first-degree wanton endangerment and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

The two-year-old boy was found unresponsive on February 14 at a mobile home in Ashland. The toddler was transported to Kings Daughter Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Police obtained a search warrant for the mobile home, with law enforcement finding the presence of fentanyl in the room where the child slept, according to Kentucky State Police. Investigators then learned the child died from ingesting fentanyl.

Copodonna was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
