Kentucky State Police is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting following a police pursuit that traveled through Edmonson and Warren counties.

The incident began at approximately 9:00 Thursday night when, according to an unconfirmed report, the male suspect began shooting at a law enforcement officer during an attempted traffic stop in southern Edmonson County.

The suspect, while fleeing troopers and possibly Edmonson and Warren County deputies and other law enforcement agencies, fired multiple times at police as the chase wound through Hwy 101 in southern Edmonson County and northern Warren County, and Louisville Road (Hwy 31W) as well as Rocky Hill Road (Hwy 259). The pursuit also entered Smiths Grove proper at one point.

The chase ended on Rocky Hill Road near the intersection of Louisville Road, about five miles east of Smiths Grove. The suspect was shot and killed. It’s unclear at this point which police agency’s officer or officers shot the suspect, or what, other than the pursuit, immediately preceded the deadly shooting.
