The mother of a three-year-old girl sexually assaulted and beaten to death by her boyfriend has been indicted for complicity to murder.

In February, 22-year-old Jordan B. Taylor, of Corbin, was arrested and charged in the beating to death Amoura Smallwood. The toddler suffered brain bleeds and experienced blunt force trauma. Taylor was initially charged with first-degree murder.

Police said the child was beaten at her home in Woodbine in Whitley County while the mother, 20-year-old Alexandra M. Ward, of Corbin, was away from the residence.

On Monday, Ward was in court for a scheduled appearance by Taylor when she was arrested by Whitley County deputies following her indictment earlier this month for complicity to murder and complicity to strangulation.

A Whitley County Grand Jury also indicted Taylor for murder, first-degree strangulation and first-degree sodomy (victim under the age of 12).

Ward was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center where Taylor has been held since February. Both are being held on $1 million cash bonds (Ward’s bond was raised from $250,000 after her recent indictment).

According to online records, Taylor has been arrested at least 15 times since 2019 on charges including assault, domestic violence assault, theft by unlawful taking, first-degree terroristic threatening, public intoxication (excludes alcohol), possession of a defaced firearm, and menacing.
