A Leitchfield woman stole a truck as the owner conducted business at Wilson & Muir Bank, and answered the victim’s phone when police called.
Saturday morning at approximately 11:45, Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officer Eugene Cain responded after 33-year-old Kira L. Mattingly stole a Dodge Ram 2500 from the parking lot of the bank at 118 South Main Street.
The victim told police he left his cell phone in the vehicle (along with a firearm), with police calling the phone and Mattingly answering. She told police she was traveling on West Walnut Street. Cain arrived in the area and spotted the vehicle as Mattingly refused to stop as she turned left onto West Chestnut Street and then right onto Fraim Street before turning right onto Mulberry Street.
The short pursuit ended at the intersection of Mulberry Street and Sunbeam Road where Mattingly was taken into custody after resisting arrest.
She was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking (automobile), resisting arrest, theft by unlawful taking (firearm), fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), failure to wear a seat belt, and no driver’s license, and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Grayson County Deputies Wally Ritter and Jordan Jones assisted at the scene.
