Grayson County High School’s bass fishing team won its second straight regional title on Saturday.

The boat of River Blanton and Braeden Sadler came in first overall in the individual portion of the contest with a combined weight of 16 pounds 3 ounces. That total was nearly a pound and a half ahead of the second-place finisher.

Last year, the Cougars also were the kings of the water which was their first regional championship in program history and the first for the school, in any sport, since 2017.

Blanton and Sadler have now qualified for the state tournament with their first-place finish.

The boats of Karter Wiloughy/Mason Salmon and Owen Meredith/Cannon O’Neal missed out on state qualification by less than a pound.

The state bass fishing championship will be May 12-13 at Kentucky Lake.
