An Ohio County man arrested in March and April on multiple felony drug charges has been jailed on drug trafficking and theft charges.

On Tuesday, the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force and Ohio County deputies arrested 31-year-old Dwayne Hackney, of Centertown, after he was indicted by an Ohio County Grand Jury for trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), receiving stolen property, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The drug charges are enhanced due to the presence of a firearm.

He was lodged in the Ohio County Jail.

The indictment stems from his arrest in April after police found him to be in possession of 2.5 ounces of methamphetamine and a stolen motorcycle.

According to the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday morning April 13 at approximately 4:30, Ohio County detectives and the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force observed Hackney on a motorcycle at a business in the 1300 block of North Main Street in Beaver Dam.

Detectives received confirmation through Ohio County Central Dispatch that the motorcycle had been stolen out of Bardstown.

During a search of Hackney, police located a handgun in his backpack as well as 2.5 ounces (70 grams) of methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a large amount of cash, police said.

Hackney was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), receiving stolen property (over $1,000, less than $10,000), possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges are enhanced by the presence of the firearm.

Prior to his April arrest, Hackney was arrested in Ohio County in March after being found passed out in a vehicle.

During a search, police located a 9mm handgun, a large quantity of cash, marijuana, scales, and other drug paraphernalia, authorities said.

In that case, Hackney was charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), trafficking in marijuana, DUI (controlled substance), possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to wear a seat belt along with non-moving violations.
