There were thousands of Grayson County residents left without power after severe thunderstorms moved through the area Sunday night.
As of 5:00 Monday morning, there were approximately 5,500 Warren RECC and KU customers without power in Grayson County – 4,900 Warren RECC customers lost power, about 49 percent of the company’s Grayson County customers, while 523 KU customers in the county were without electricity.
The hardest hit areas include Wax, where over a 1,600 customers were left without power; Caneyville, which had 800 customers without power; and Anneta, where over 2,000 customers were without power. Although these are the areas of the county that have the most customers without power, numerous outages dot the Grayson County landscape.
The city of Leitchfield, as of 5:00 Monday morning, had about 125 customers without electricity.
Warren RECC issued the following statement late Sunday night regarding power outages:
Heavy damage in the north east region of our service territory. At this time, we’re at approximately 11,800 members without power. We have all hands on deck and will work until everyone is restored. If you see a downed power line, please stay away and let us know.
Use caution when traveling Monday morning, as several trees and power lines were brought down during the storm. While many of the trees have been removed, with nearly 800 miles of roadways in Grayson County there may remain a few fallen trees on roads.
