A woman was rescued from a trench in Cave City after she became buried in dirt after an earthen wall collapsed.
The Cave City Fire and Police Departments were dispatched to the accident in the 600 block of North Dixie Highway (Hwy 31-W), across from Wig Wam Village, at approximately 2:30 Friday afternoon.
Upon arriving at the scene, Cave City fire officials said they found that an unidentified female in her 40s had been buried in a collapsed trench, encapsulating her in 17-feet of dirt.
First responders, Cave City fire officials said, initially could only hear “faint mumbles” coming from the woman.
The Bowling Green Fire Department was requested because the department has the equipment needed (primarily trench shoring lumber) and personnel trained to extricate someone from such a predicament.
“Bowling Green Fire was dispatched due to their technical trench rescue team to assist with the rescue of the patient. Thankfully, the department was able to work quickly and uncover the patient,” the Cave City Fire Department said.
The woman, who was alert, was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
First responders were on the scene for about five hours.
