An Oldham County High School teacher and coach has been killed in Washington, D.C.

Maxwell Emerson, 25, of Crestwood, was shot on the campus of Catholic University Wednesday night at approximately 8:30. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Metropolitan Police Department said surveillance video shows two men walking on the campus when one of the men brandished a handgun and shot the other man. Emerson’s mother told investigators she didn’t believe Emerson knew the man who shot him.

No arrests have been made.

Emerson was a Social Studies teacher at the school as well as a wrestling coach.

He was in the city with his brother and mother for the Fourth of July and was on his way to a professional development workshop at the Library of Congress when he was shot.
