
A Hopkins County woman has been charged with attempted murder after breaking into a residence and stabbing a woman multiple times.
Monday morning at approximately 1:00, the Madisonville Police Department responded to the incident at an apartment on Seminary Street. Upon arriving at the scene, police found that 39-year-old Ashley N. Stafford, of Madisonville, had broken into the apartment armed with a knife, according to media reports.
After vandalizing the apartment, Stafford confronted the female occupant and screamed, “I’m going to kill you,” before stabbing the woman several times.
Stafford was arrested, and in addition to attempted murder, she was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief and lodged in the Hopkins County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond.
The victim was transported to Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville for treatment.
