A Leitchfield man became unresponsive after overdosing on an opioid for the third time in five weeks.
Wednesday evening at approximately 6:35, the Leitchfield Police and Fire Departments and EMS responded to the overdose at a residence on Hardin Street.
The person who notified Central Dispatch of the fentanyl overdose said the 45-year-old man was unresponsive. Prior to first responders arriving on the scene, the man was given three doses of Narcan — an opioid overdose reversal agent — by the caller; a relative of the man.
Initially at least, the man remained unresponsive after receiving the Narcan doses.
He was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center. His current condition is not known.
The week prior, the man overdosed on an opioid and went into respiratory arrest, as his heart stopped but he maintained a pulse, according to a first responder.
