A young man has been killed after striking a tractor-trailer in the rear.

Kentucky State Police responded to the crash at approximately 3:20 Wednesday afternoon near the 87-mile marker of Interstate-69 in Caldwell County.

State police said the investigation revealed that 23-year-old Erik L. Putman, of Nortonville, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado north on I-69 when he crashed into the rear of a 2024 Freightliner semi that was stopped in the left lane due to a mechanical issue.

Putnam was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Caldwell County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the semi, 60-year-old Tommy R. Robinson, of Cincinnati, was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
