A wrong-way, allegedly intoxicated driver has been arrested on the Western Kentucky Parkway between Leitchfield and Caneyville.

Tuesday night at approximately 11:00, Grayson County Dispatch alerted local law enforcement that a vehicle was traveling east in the westbound lanes near the 83-mile marker of the parkway. Three motorists called dispatch and said they were nearly struck head-on by the wrong-way vehicle, according to the arrest citation.

Grayson County Deputy Andy Cast responded and made contact with an eastbound 2001 Dodge Ram truck near the 100-mile marker of the westbound parkway. Cast executed a traffic stop, with the truck, being driven by 38-year-old Brandon K. Hogan, formerly of  Bee Spring, stopping while still partially in the roadway.

As Cast made contact with Hogan, he detected a “strong odor of alcoholic beverages” coming from the suspect, the citation states. The deputy also observed a “vape device” on the center console.

Due to the “dangerous location, totality of circumstances, and Mr. Hogan being manifestly under the influence,” according to the citation, Cast did not conduct a field sobriety test.

Hogan was transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center where he consented to a blood draw. He was arrested and charged with four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and DUI and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. DJ Newton and Officer Chuck Hoover provided traffic control at the scene while Deputy Bradley Bates assisted Cast.
