Two brothers are recovering after they were struck by lightning on a Lexington golf course.

Tyler and Riley Morrison, of Louisville, and both students at the University of Kentucky, were struck by lightning Friday night at approximately 7:10 as they played a round of golf at Meadowbrook Golf Course in southwest Lexington, according to a report by WYMT.com.

An unexpected rainstorm blew into the area as they played, resulting in the brothers, not knowing the severity of storm heading their way, taking cover under a tree. Tyler was then struck by a bolt of lightning and rendered unresponsive. The current traveled, apparently through the ground, and struck Riley.

Riley, not injured nearly as severely as his brother, called his brother’s girlfriend who then contacted the brothers’ mother.

The Lexington Police Department was notified and responded to the scene and located the two boys.

They were transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Tyler remains hospitalized with burns related to jewelry he was wearing. He also has an injury behind his ear, where the lightning likely entered his body. Riley has been released.
