A Big Clifty man is facing multiple charges after being caught peering into a small child’s window.

Monday morning at approximately 11:10, Grayson County Det. Wally Ritter and Constable Mark Stanton responded to the 2600 block of Shaw Creek Road after a father caught his neighbor, 44-year-old William R. Merrifield, “looking into the window of his four-year-old daughter,” Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins said.

Upon seeing Merrifield looking through the little girl’s window, the father “met (the suspect) at gunpoint at his daughter’s window,” according to Chaffins.

Upon police arriving at the scene, Merrifield was on a skid steer on his property. When law enforcement made contact with the suspect he was found to have a methamphetamine pipe containing the drug in his pocket, along with condoms.

“According to the father, Merrifield had also dropped a coloring book underneath his four-year-old’s window,” Chaffins said. The young girl, police stated, was not in the room when Merrifield was caught looking into the window.

Merrifield was previously trespassed from the property “for similar reasons,” Chaffins noted.

He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), criminal trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia.
