
James “Racky” Rastus Whitaker, age 80, of Whitaker Road in Leitchfield, KY passed away Thursday (November 2, 2023) peacefully on the family farm with his wife by his side. He was born on January 2, 1943, in Shrewsbury, Kentucky, the son of the late James Elbert “Moon” and Nancy Whitaker.
He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church of Leitchfield and was saved as a young boy at Shrewsbury church. He was a previous member of Grayson County Cattlemen’s Association.
Racky spent many years working and eventually becoming a co-owner in Farmer’s Supply Store located in Leitchfield, Kentucky. He was a retired full-time farmer where he proudly raised cattle, hogs and grain. He enjoyed watching Westerns, his Allis-Chalmers tractors, checking the farm on his RTV, watching his grandchildren grow and seeing the news while drinking his morning coffee.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pernie Logsdon Whitaker; one daughter Earlene Whitaker Wilson (Matt); and his two grandchildren Ruby James Wilson and Monroe Wilson; two brothers, Ricky (Anna) Whitaker of Leitchfield and Floyd Whitaker of Delaware. Several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends, neighbors, and relatives also survive.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by one grandchild Walker Wilson and his nephew Dennis Whitaker of Leitchfield.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, (November 11, 2023) at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Cecil Williams, Bro. J.H. Manion and Bro. Billy Bertram will be officiating. Burial will be in the Broadway Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Dermitt Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
