For the second time since April, a Leitchfield woman has been caught red-handed stealing a truck.

Leitchfield police recently received a report of a stolen 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, and as officers were investigating the theft Grayson County Dispatch received a report indicating the vehicle was parked on Orchard Street.

When officers, including Brian Jennings and Det. Sgt. Ian Renfrow, arrived in the area they observed the stolen truck backed into a driveway. The suspect, 34-year-old Kira Mattingly, was “loading items into the back of the truck,” according to the arrest citation.

During a search of the suspect, police found a key ring “with multiple keys on it, one of which was a truck key which was tested and did in fact operate the vehicle in question,” the citation states.

Mattingly was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property (more than $1,000, less than $10,000). She was also served with a failure to appear warrant and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

In April of this year, Mattingly was arrested for stealing a Dodge Ram 2500 from the parking lot of Wilson and Muir Bank on South Main Street in Leitchfield. The truck’s owner was in the bank conducting business.

In that case, the victim’s cell phone was in the truck when it was stolen. Leitchfield police, including LPD Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officer Eugene Cain, called the number, with Mattingly answering.

She was arrested at the intersection of Mulberry Street and Sunbeam Road following a brief pursuit and scuffling with officers.
