A one-time central Kentucky teacher has pled guilty to producing and possessing child pornography involving a nine-year-old victim.

Kevin D. Lentz, 49, of Lexington, pled guilty to the charges in federal court earlier this week, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky.

Lentz admitted in his plea agreement that he began an online conversation with the nine-year-old victim on March 19, 2023. Within minutes, prosecutors said Lentz sent the victim 85 images or videos of adult pornography, including sexually explicit images and videos of Lentz.

Lentz, an English teacher at Henry Clay High School at the time of arrest in August 2023, also persuaded the victim to create and send sexually explicit videos and images of himself to Lentz via the internet.

Lentz acknowledged that he knew the victim was a minor.

A search warrant was executed at Lentz’s home on August 8, 2023, where police seized numerous electronic devices, including a computer, cellphone and multiple hard drives.

A search of the devices revealed “several hundred additional images and videos of prepubescent minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct that Lentz obtained from the internet,” prosecutors said.

Lentz faces between 15 and 30 years in prison on the production of child pornography count and up to 20 years for possession of child pornography.

His sentencing date has not been set.

Lentz began teaching in the Fayette County Public School System in 2005.
