A woman has been killed in a crossover crash on the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the crash near the 42-mile marker in Muhlenberg County Wednesday afternoon at approximately 1:40.

Police said a westbound Cadillac XTS, being driven by 45-year-old Francesca Y. Applewhite, of Clarksville, Tennessee, crossed the median when a trooper approached the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop because Applewhite was traveling 86 miles per hour.

Applewhite, after crossing the median into the eastbound lanes, struck head-on a Toyota RAV4, being driven by 33-year-old Amanda Holman, of Belton (Muhlenberg Co.). The Toyota then hit a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer, being driven by 42-year-old Derek C. Offutt, of Madisonville.

Holman perished in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Applewhite was airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville. Offutt was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by KSP accident re-constructionist Det. Brian Graves.
