The Total Burn Ban issued for Grayson County eight days ago has been lifted.
Earlier this month, the county experienced two large wildfires resulting in approximately 150 acres being burned. The larger of the two fires, off Hilton Mill Road, burned just over 100 acres, while a fire off Grayson Springs Road charred approximately 40 acres. Additionally, there have been several smaller grass/woods fires that fire departments have responded to over the last few weeks.
With the area experiencing rainfall and a drop in temperature, Henderson on Tuesday signed an Executive Order ending the Total Burn Ban.
A Daytime Burn Ban, issued yearly by the Kentucky Department of Forestry during the state’s fall forest fire season, is still in effect throughout Kentucky until December 15. The ban prohibits burning within 150 feet of a woodland or brushland between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
The penalty for violating the burn ban is a maximum $500 fine.
