Nearly a dozen members of the Leitchfield Fire Department assisted at a structure fire across Rough River Lake in Breckinridge County.
Wednesday morning at 5:30, Leitchfield FD was requested by the McDaniels Fire Department to assist battling a large garage fire at 478 South Riverbend Road, just across the Grayson/Breckinridge County line. The fire spread from the garage to a wooded area.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found that the garage, containing a vehicle, had collapsed.
LFD, which sent 10 firefighters to the scene, spent about an hour extinguishing the blaze and battling the woods fire.
LFD Chief Tim Duvall said it’s unclear exactly how the fire began, but that an explosion was heard by neighbors just before the fire started. Duvall added that there was a small fire in the area either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. But whether that fire is connected to the South Riverbend Road blaze is not known.
LFD cleared the scene at 6:41 a.m.
