A mother has been accused of severely abusing her baby, including pulling off a toenail.
Hannah Rupard, 21, of Berea, confessed to repeatedly striking her six-month-old baby in the head and pulling off one of the baby’s toenails, according to the Richmond Register. She was arrested on December 23 and charged with five counts of first-degree criminal abuse (victim under the age of 12).
The Richmond Register reports that the arrest citation states that the baby was initially taken to a clinic where Rupard was informed that the baby needed to be taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. Once there, hospital staff alerted Madison County Social Services and police of the abuse.
Under questioning by law enforcement, Rupard admitted she abused her baby, who, in addition to having a toenail torn off, had bruising around its temple and ear.
Rupard is lodged in the Madison County Detention Center.
