A man has been arrested on DUI and assault charges after crashing while driving the wrong way on I-165 (formerly the William H. Natcher Parkway).

Monday morning at approximately 2:00, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to near the 47-mile marker of southbound I-165 after dispatch received a half-dozen calls regarding a northbound driver traveling at a high rate of speed in the southbound lanes.

Only minutes later, dispatch received a report of a head-on collision involving the wrong-way vehicle and another vehicle at the 54-mile marker, about eight miles north of the Hartford exit, Ohio County Sheriff Adam Wright said.

Upon arriving at the wreck scene, deputies identified the driver of the vehicle traveling the wrong direction as 29-year-old Julian Perez Aguilar, of Owensboro.

“Deputies were able to determine that Aguilar was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision,” Wright stated.

A passenger in the vehicle struck by Aguilar was transported to a local hospital.

Aguilar was arrested and lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center where he was charged with second-degree assault, DUI (aggravating circumstances), reckless driving, and no driver’s license. He is no longer listed as an inmate.
