An elderly Bowling Green man has been accused of shooting and killing his wife.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office told WBKO.com that deputies responded Tuesday night at 6:40 to Bluebell Way, in the Three Springs area, after the daughter of the shooting suspect, 76-year-old Terry E. Thomas, told police Thomas told her he shot his wife, Mary Thomas.
Upon police arriving at the scene, the suspect told deputies that his wife tried to stab him. He added that Mary Thomas took his firearm and shot herself.
Terry Thomas was then transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green because of breathing problems. At the hospital, he changed his story, telling police that his wife was in their bedroom when she brandished a handgun. A struggle over the gun ensued, with Mary Thomas suffering a fatal gunshot to the head.
Police then interviewed the couple’s daughter, who told investigators that her father told her that he shot his wife during a domestic dispute.
The investigation into the incident showed no signs of struggle in the home and no knives were found in the couple’s bedroom.
Terry Thomas was arrested and charged with murder and receiving stolen property (firearm). He was lodged in the Warren County Detention Center on a $500,000.
