Man charged with 2 counts of murder in DUI crash that killed Morgantown mother, her young son

A man has been charged with two counts of murder in a DUI crash that killed a Butler County mother and her young son.

The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office said 28-year-old Cody J. Swift, of Alvaton, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, three counts of first-degree assault, felony wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, and DUI (aggravating circumstances).

The charges arise from a wreck at approximately 6:00 p.m. on September 2, 2023, in the 7000 block of Hwy 231 south near Cromwell. Killed in the crash were 30-year-old Eulalia Gomez and her son, nine-year-old Christian Felipe Gomez Francisco, both of Morgantown.

Three people were airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital with what police described at the time as critical injuries.

Swift was lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center. He’s being held on a $200,000 cash bond.
