A tornado touched down in a small town in Henry County on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), an EF-1 tornado struck the community of Port Royal at 5:32 Saturday evening.

The tornado was on the ground for approximately one mile. Prior to entering Port Royal, the twister “caused scattered tree damage,” but as the system moved into Port Royal it destroyed a pole barn, as debris from the barn was scattered over a quarter-mile area.

“Several other structures had roof and siding damage,” the NWS said. “Several trees were snapped or sheared apart, with roof debris wrapping around some of the trees … One vehicle was lifted, moved several feet away and rotated 90 degrees.”

The tornado, which was on the ground for about two minutes, was 75 yards wide and its top wind speed was about 90 mph, the NWS said.

No injuries were reported.

Port Royal is a town of fewer than 100 residents about 10 miles southeast of Carrollton.

Areas of bordering Trimble County experienced damage from the same storm system from what NWS investigators determined were straight-line winds.
