The seventh annual Empty Bowls Soup Supper that benefits the Grayson County Alliance (GCA) Food Pantry is on Monday.

The event will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish Hall in Leitchfield.

Empty Bowls is a soup supper that brings awareness to the one in seven Grayson County families struggling with food insecurity. For a suggested donation of $25, guests have their choice of a painted keepsake or pottery bowl created by artists from the community.

“The evening is full of fellowship, fun and food,” GCA Executive Director Debbie Childress said. “All the soups and desserts for the evening are donated by local restaurants and bakers … and the evening is sponsored through the generosity of local businesses, groups, churches, and individuals that want to make a positive impact for their friends and neighbors in need.”

Childress notes that each pottery bowl selected by attendees “will be that visual reminder that it takes all of us to fill the bowls and fight hunger in our community.”

Renowned artist Larry Elmore has again created a one-of-a-kind dragon-themed bowl to be sold in support of the food pantry.

“We are so blessed by Larry’s gracious gift of his time and talents to benefit the food pantry, and it is a great blessing to have his amazing creations to support our work at GCA,” Childress said.

GCA will hold a silent auction for Elmore’s bowl on the organization’s Facebook page. Bidding opens on a special Facebook post on February 19 at 7:00 a.m. and closes on the same day at 7:00 p.m. The highest bid wins and no bids after close will be considered, Childress said. The winner will be announced on the original Facebook post.

Grayson County Alliance, a 501(c)3 non-profit, has been serving Grayson County with a food pantry for the past 24 years. This year the pantry fed an average of 750 families a month.

The food pantry depends on donations from the community and grants for support. Community members and groups can also give back by volunteering.
