A pilot has survived a plane crash in Union County.

The crash happened Friday night just before midnight when a single-engine plane went down in a wooded area near Airline Road, not far from the Webster County line.

The pilot, and only person on board, was conscious and cold when he was found early Saturday morning after an all-night search by multiple agencies.

Union County Emergency Management Director Lee Baird told news outlets that an iPhone alert regarding a vehicle crash was sent from the pilot’s phone. First responders searched roads and ditches in a 10-mile radius around where the phone was pinging looking for a vehicle crash.

It wasn’t until Saturday morning when a member of the search crew spotted debris from the crashed plane.

The pilot told first responders he wasn’t sure where he was going or where he came from.

NTSB and FAA officials are investigating the crash.
