Visitors to James D. Beville Park are now welcomed by a new sign built by a city of Leitchfield employee.

In a cooperative effort between the city of Leitchfield, Leitchfield Public Works and the Leitchfield Tourism Commission, the new sign was erected Thursday afternoon at the entrance to the city’s most popular park.

The sign was fabricated by Public Works employee David Elliott, and features the logos for the city of Leitchfield and Leitchfield Tourism, which financed the project. It was Elliot’s idea, officials said, to incorporate the logos into the sign.

Leitchfield Mayor Harold Miller said the sign well exceeded his expectations and profusely praised Elliott for his design and talent.

Leitchfield Parks and Recreation Director Tammee Saltsman invited James D. Beville’s family to the sign-raising, which became an emotional, touching scene for the family members.

Elliott will also design a new sign for Firefighter’s Memorial Park on Brandenburg Road.

“David’s new sign (at Firefighter’s Memorial Park) will also be something special,” Leitchfield City Council member Dennis Fentress said.
