Eight tornadoes struck Kentucky on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said eight EF-1 twisters touched down in Mason, Anderson, Bourbon, Boyd, Henry, Jessamine, Jefferson, and Nelson counties.

The top tornado wind speeds reached 110 miles per hour in Jessamine, Bourbon and Henry counties, according to the NWS.

There was one storm-related death, Gov. Andy Beshear said, when a car crash in Campbell County claimed the life of a young male driver “when the first line of strong storms” arrived in the area.

While the NWS’s damage assessors continue to evaluate the destruction, multiple homes and buildings were destroyed or heavily damaged in the eight tornado-effected counties. Several injuries have also been reported.

In addition to the eight counties struck by twisters, Beshear said that there are reports of varying degrees of damage presumably caused by straight-line winds in Bath, Ballard, Carter, Clark, Elliott, Fayette, Greenup, Kenton, Mercer, Montgomery, Powell, Union, and Woodford counties.
