A trespassing complaint in Ohio County led to the arrest of a multi-time felon who absconded from parole after he almost struck a detective while fleeing police.
The Ohio County Sheriff’s Office said deputies on Wednesday were dispatched to a trespassing complaint in the 4000 block of Hwy 1414 near Hartford.
After taking a report, police observed a Corvette in the driveway of the trespassing suspect, 44-year-old Shannon Lee Baker, who also had an outstanding warrant for absconding from parole.
Baker, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, has a combined six felony convictions in Breckinridge, Hancock and Jefferson counties dating back to 2012, and include convictions for manufacturing methamphetamine, facilitation to second-degree arson, first-degree promoting contraband, second-degree escape, first-degree criminal mischief (persistent felony offender enhancement), and knowingly possessing anhydrous ammonia with intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
As police approached the Corvette, the vehicle fled the scene, almost striking a detective, according to the sheriff’s office.
The vehicle was located about an hour later parked behind a residence in the 400 block of Taffy Road in Hartford. Police took possession of the vehicle and as deputies were leaving the scene they observed Baker walking alongside Taffy Road.
Baker then fled into a wooded area but was caught after a short foot pursuit, police said.
He was arrested and charged with first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer and two counts of fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle, on foot) along with several traffic violations.
He was initially lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center but has since been transferred to the Grayson County Detention Center.
